5 minutes with Naomi

Tell us a little about yourself

I'm married to Adam. We have a delightful little girl, Eva, who will be three years old in May, and we are expecting identical twins in the middle of the year too. I've been working in communications for CMS (the Church Missionary Society) for over five years.

What's your favourite bible passage & why?

Romans 8:28: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. God always has a good plan and purpose for his people. So no matter what happens in my life, God is seeking to make me more like his Son, Jesus Christ.

How do you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus?

Seeking to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus is a daily joy and struggle. I need God’s grace so much! I’m currently using the Proverbs 31 First 5 app to help me read my Bible daily. I try to be challenged to apply God's word to all aspects of my life through listening to biblical preaching, prayer and sharing my struggles with sin with godly Christian friends.

What would you like the next generation of Christian women to know?

As a teenage Christian woman I wasn’t very secure in God’s love. I knew in my head that God loved me but it didn’t transform the way I lived. I made many choices based on fear. So I want the next generation of Christian women to know how deeply the Lord loves them – and they don’t need the approval of the world or man.

What's one thing that you love about your local church?

I’ve got two! I really love the people, and am encouraged by their persistent faith, commitment to loving each other sacrificially and our community. I’m also really thankful for the faithful preaching that always challenges me to apply God’s word ever more deeply to my life.

What did you learn about God at a time in your life you found hard?

One of the hardest times I have been through in the last few years was my first miscarriage. Through his word, and the support and prayers of others, I learnt that God absolutely is our comfort, refuge and strength in suffering. In those couple of months following, I clung to the hope that he knew best for our family and it was then that Romans 8:28 became such a key verse for me.

What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about seeking opportunities to share about God’s love for us in Jesus Christ, and being a godly wife, mother, sister and friend.

What do you enjoy doing when you rest?

I enjoy reading fiction, and particularly historical fiction or books set in other cultures or places – especially Africa or Europe! I also enjoy watching TV series with my husband – we’re a bit slow to be honest: last year we finished watching The West Wing for the first time. I like writing, dappling in art and listening to podcasts too (one of my faves is Chat 10 Looks 3, and I also enjoy sermons or talks/interviews on being a godly mum).
