5 minutes with Lucy ...

Tell us a little about you

I’m a wife, daughter, friend and sister. I’m a blogger, baker, sewer and reader. I love to create things from old scraps of material, or revamp pre-loved furniture. I drink too much tea and coffee and love to create tasty, raw snacks to feed my sugar addiction! I’m a teacher of little people and their successes and joys bring me such delight! But more than all of these things I am a daughter of a heavenly God. I find my identity in Him and love the purpose He brings to my life.

What's your favourite bible passage & why? I can’t say I have a favourite, but many that I love that speak into my life. Micah 6:8 is one of those passages that has encouraged and challenged me. ‘He has shown you O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.’

How do you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus? It is so hard for a young woman to keep her eyes on Jesus when there are so many other things competing for our attention. Advertisements that say women should look a certain way, social media that says our lives should be full of fun, friends and style, and a world that says that money and status are gods. I find busyness fills my days and distracts me from just sitting still and spending time with the One who is above all of these things. I am blessed to have an encouraging husband and amazing friends who constantly remind me that Jesus is way more important than anything. They help me refocus my attention and spur me on to spend time with my Creator.

What would you like the next generation of Christian women to know?

Young girls in Australia today are focused on entitlement. They are entitled to have money, power, technology, attention, and access. I believe this will cause many problems when these girls grow into adults. God didn’t create us to be power hungry and to love the world. He created us to be humbled by His Grace and to put others before ourselves. I am passionate about teaching my students, boys and girls, that we should be striving to be more like Jesus; humble and servant hearted.

What's one thing that you love about your local church? I love many things about my church. I love how it is focussed on preaching from the Word, building community and bringing people to know Jesus. I love how it feels like home and has been integral in shaping my faith since I walked through the doors 8 years ago.

What did you learn about God at a time in your life you found hard? Romans 8:28 says ‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.’

My first year as a Christian was one of the hardest years. My life changed dramatically and I lost friends and family members as a result. But God was preparing me though hard times and refining my faith.

What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about the poor and needy of our world. Jesus talks about those in need countless times in the Bible. I think that His call for us all is clear: Don’t forget the poor. I think we can help the poor in many ways, we just have to open our heart and step out of our comfort zone.

What do you enjoy doing when you rest?

I enjoy baking new things! I love creating my own recipes, searching through our recipe books and pinterest for yummy snacks and meals! The clean up isn’t as fun… Lucy has a blog called Hunt and Gather. It's gorgeous!
