Daily Reflection: Psalm 125.2

"Rapid change, accommodating it can be one of the great human capacities. But living through it can be the stuff of stress and often suffering." Ron Suskind

Reflection: Even though Jerusalem is on a mountain, it is lower than the tops of the surrounding mountains. For an ancient city, this was the most militarily secure position to be in, encircled by a mountain fortress. The image here is one of security for God’s people. In our world of rapid change, we can feel insecure and out of control. But the Lord is like a fortress surrounding his people with his grace, power and strength.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we long for security and to feel that our lives are stable and ordered. Thank you that you surround your people, now and forevermore. May this be a comfort and strength to us at all times, even when life feels chaotic. Amen

Take it further: It’s not just the fast pace of change in our world that can leave us feeling out of control, but on a spiritual level, the struggle we have against ‘the devil’s schemes’. Read Ephesians 6:10-20 and give thanks to God for the armour that he gives us to help us stand firm.
