5 minutes with Meredith ...

Tell us a little about yourself

I live in Sydney with my husband, and our two teenagers, and have been a Christian for nearly 20 years.  I love helping people solve problems, which explains both my background in law, and that these days I am a counsellor.

What's your favourite bible passage & why?

The integration of theology and psychology is fascinating to me, so Ps.139 is a favourite verse. We are truly fearfully and wonderfully made, and known intimately, and I love how scientific advancements (in for example the fields of neuroscience and epigenetics) illuminate the magnificence of God’s design.

How do you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus?

I’m not sucking up but truly, right now it is the FHE community that helps me stay focused on Jesus. The posts, debate, articles are the bomb.

What would you like the next generation of Christian women to know?

I would like the next generation of Christian women to know that men are not the enemy, and to remember how many brilliant and supportive brothers they have and need.  Rather, it is the biases, norms and corruption of culture that skews attitudes and behaviours. I want them to keep engaging intelligently to change culture through research, policy and law making, through debate and using their voices. Oh and using their money wisely too.

What's one thing that you love about your local church?

Despite the fact I have not always agreed with aspects of the teaching at my local church, I love that my kids have grown up there and that as a family we belong. Though at times tempting to leave, I love that I can stay and have a voice even though that is not always comfortable.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about knowing God and his Word. Contemporary scholarship around ancient language and culture brings so much to current theological debate concerning women.

What did you learn about God at a time in your life you found hard?

At a time when I found church hard, I learnt God is good even when he rebukes us. Whether I approve of church leadership- or not- is irrelevant really. Jesus is King, the rest are management.

What do you enjoy doing when you rest?

To rest, I like decluttering. That and period drama. Sad, I know, but there it is.
