5 minutes with Brianna ...

Tell us a little about you. I am a book worm turned law student, who is currently taking a gap year to work and travel. I love music, people and Jesus. Oh, and cheese - I really like cheese. What's your favourite bible passage & why? Colossians 1:17 says 'He is before all things, and in him all things hold together'. I've always loved this passage because it makes me feel so tiny. My fears, my problems, my pride - all so minute compared to the profound existence of Christ. How do you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus? I don't do a very good job of that, most days. His grace is the only reason that my eyes are fixed on him. But, in a practical sense, I guess I try to do three things to keep my focus: 1. Pray. I've always had a prayer journal, it reminds me of the 1000's of answered prayers which are often forgotten 2. Music. Brooke Fraser, Jake Nauta, Kings Kaleidoscope & Jimmy Needham are on my playlist at the moment. Traditional hymns or indie rock - it all helps me bring worship into my headphones, and everyday life. 3. Fellowship. I have a very precious mentor who lives life alongside me. Date nights with her are so encouraging. What would you like the next generation of Christian women to know? You are so powerful. God gave you fiery hearts, loud voices and feet to stomp - use these things when they are needed. But, do not do it in pride or self righteousness. Practice grace and wisdom. Being feisty is only worthy when you are thoughtful and willing to learn. What's one thing that you love about your local church? I think 'family' pretty much sums it up. 90 year olds and little babies join together under the one roof, and the one God. What did you learn about God at a time in your life you found hard? I learnt, or maybe I am still learning, that God is always in control. His plans will come to fruition. This is inconceivably comforting in times of unrest or doubt. But, it is also a very real challenge in my life right now. The plans that I have for my life are not a certainty. The people I want to be in my life may not stay. I may not get what I want - but God is always in control and he is always good. What are you passionate about? Justice. Justice for the poor, justice for the broken, justice for the planet, justice for women and children. What do you enjoy doing when you rest? Reading and writing are the ultimate respite activities. Ocean swims and horse rides (on my beautiful mare!) are also pretty good. Add in some red wine, good music and great people - and you have a perfect day.
